First- and second-year students in any undergraduate college at Penn are invited to apply for this summer’s Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring program (PURM). Student participants will receive a $5,000 award. PURM is a great opportunity to get deeper into a field that might interest you, and to get a taste of what academic research is all about. Over 200 faculty members from across Penn have posted research projects in a wide variety of fields to engage students.

Behind the CV: A Conversation with Prof. Lorena Grundy
Join us for an engaging conversation with Dr. Lorena Grundy, Practice Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the founding director of Penn Engineering’s new Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability Engineering program. Her work bridges her research background in electrochemical systems with a deep commitment to teaching, mentorship, and climate- and equity-focused innovation. In this discussion, Dr. Grundy will reflect on the experiences that shaped her path—from polymer electrolyte research at UC Berkeley to sustainability-focused curriculum design and national service—and offer insights on building a meaningful career at the intersection of engineering, education, and societal impact. Schwarzman Scholars is a fully-funded, one-year master’s degree program in global affairs at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. An unparalleled graduate program, the experience encompasses unique opportunities in and outside the classroom, providing Scholars with extensive leadership training, a network of senior mentors, opportunities to engage in high-level interactions with Chinese leaders and visiting speakers, optional internships, career development guidance, and travel seminars around China. Schwarzman Scholars’ dynamic curriculum--based on the pillars of China, leadership, and global affairs--is designed to provide Scholars with the knowledge, skills, and firsthand experience needed to navigate the complexities of the evolving global landscape.
Each year, 150 candidates from around the world are selected to join a diverse cohort. Grant-Writing Workshop
The CURF Spring Grant deadline on March 16 is fast approaching. Come learn how you can better position yourself to be a competitive applicant for the College Alumni Society Research Grant, Holtz Fund, Barthmaier Award, or one of the many other grants available! This workshop will cover common elements of grant applications, tips for writing a strong research proposal and budget, and common mistakes to avoid. Even if you are not planning to apply for a grant this semester, this is a great opportunity to start learning about the CURF grants and the skills that will make you a stronger writer and communicator of your research!
