ICA Curatorial Summer Fellowship

The Curatorial CURF position affords students the opportunity to get hands-on experience working closely with the ICA Curatorial Department conducting research related to current and upcoming exhibitions as well as ongoing administrative tasks. The primary project this summer will be assisting with research and organization for the fall exhibitions with Director of Curatorial Affairs, Robert Chaney, and Chief Curator, Hallie Ringle. The fellow will conduct research relating to exhibition materials and gallery layout. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the vibrant and fast-paced world of contemporary art. Students will have a unique opportunity to gain professional experience at an internationally acclaimed contemporary art museum working closely with a world-class curatorial team. Responsibilities vary widely presenting a fellow with many challenging, invigorating, and rewarding experiences. There is never a dull moment at the ICA. General knowledge of Adobe Suite is preferred but not necessary. While the ICA prioritizes an in-person fellowship, a hybrid option is possible.

ICA Public Engagement and Research Summer Fellowship

The position affords students the opportunity to get hands-on experience working closely with the ICA Public Engagement and Research department conducting research related to current and upcoming exhibition-related programs as well as supporting in ongoing administrative tasks. The primary project this summer will be assisting with the production of programs related to How I Learned to Work: Art from the Yard and Joanna Piotrowska as well as cultivating engagement with students and organizations on campus. The fellow will also assist with research on and relationship building with other arts organizations in West Philadelphia and surrounding areas. While the ICA prioritizes an in-person fellowship, a hybrid option is possible. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing and disseminating promotional materials for events and initiatives 
  • Assist with research and development of ICA Student Board 2024-2025 structure
  • Assist with recruiting and training of ICA Docents 
  • Create Eventbrite postings and Facebook events for upcoming programs at ICA
  • Research new opportunities for student outreach
  • Proficiency in Outlook/Office Suite, Eventbrite, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Social Media platforms helpful

ICA Marketing and Communications Summer Fellowship 

The Marketing & Communications Department intern at ICA is an integral member of the marketing and communications team who is vital to successfully expanding public awareness of ICA through press, web, and community outreach; social media presence across platforms; and ensuring consistency of institutional brand through design. This intern will participate in a wide-range of duties, gaining a broad perspective in not only museum marketing and communications strategies, but the inner workings of a mid-sized university art museum. While ICA prioritizes an in-person fellowship, a hybrid option is possible.

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain sections of ICA’s website (includes making pages for programs and exhibitions, uploading and formatting images and captions) 
  • Assist with aggregating and formatting monthly emails for ICA’s mailing list via Mailchimp (requires basic HTML proficiency) 
  • Build an archive of images and social media posts  
  • Create Eventbrite postings and Facebook events for upcoming programs at ICA 
  • Assist with press outreach to local contacts for upcoming and current exhibitions 
  • Consider new initiatives for reaching students 
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Social Media platforms helpful
