Summer Undergraduate Internships in Clinical and Translational Science

The Translational Research Internship Program at the University of Pennsylvania provides mentored research experiences in clinical and translational sciences to undergraduate students from Bryn Mawr College, Franklin & Marshall College, Haverford College, Lincoln University, Swarthmore College, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Puerto Rico. Internships are sponsored by the NIH Clinical and Translational Sciences Award and are 10 weeks in duration, starting May 26, 2020 and ending August 4, 2020. The program provides on-campus housing and a stipend of $3,900.

Short Term Educational Experiences for Research (STEER)

Interest in environmental health and the need for increased research in this field has steadily grown during the past decade. To address this need, the University of Pennsylvania has received an NIEHS award for summer internships for selected undergraduate students (the Short Term Educational Experiences for Research or STEER grant, formally known as the Penn Undergraduate Environmental Health Scholars Program).

Penn Program for Public Service Internship Program

The Penn Program for Public Service Internship Program is a 12-week multifaceted summer program that immerses undergraduates in the West Philadelphia-Penn community. Site placements include Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative and K-8 Summer Programs among others. At the core of the internship is an action-oriented, Academically Based Community Service seminar led by the director of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships, Dr. Ira Harkavy.

Monell’s Science Apprenticeship Program

The Monell Center is the world’s only scientific research institute dedicated to conducting basic research on taste, smell, and nutritional sciences. Located within Philadelphia’s University City, the Monell Center sponsors a Science Apprenticeship Program to introduce local high school and college students to scientific research. The program welcomes all student applicants and has a particular interest in training individuals from groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) RISE

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) program

RISE Germany offers summer research internships in Germany for undergraduate students from North America, Great Britain and Ireland. In their internships, students are carefully matched with doctoral students and researchers (only from universities of applied sciences, UAS) – whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. Interns receive a monthly stipend to cover every day costs. About 300 scholarships are available each year.
