I am interested in researching sign language acquisition and psychology. In high school, I visited Gallaudet University and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind twice each, which afforded me the chance to observe deaf education from an American lens. During a trip to Pakistan in 2018, I volunteered at a local deaf primary school and noticed many technological barriers to signing curriculum materials (notably video playing devices, which we heavily depend on to share ASL performances and literature). I hope to collaborate with Deaf teachers and researchers at Penn to explore the integral elements of signing for a deaf child’s flourishing, and introduce and increase access to them in countries like Pakistan.
