Coming to Penn, I knew I wanted to be involved in research. However, I felt lost in the process of researching different labs at Penn and frustrated that I was getting behind. It was not until Spring semester my sophomore year when I finally got an offer to be a research assistant in the lab of Dr. Foteini Mourkioti. As I interacted with patients suffering from chronic heart conditions at the bedside through nursing clinical, I developed a deeper interest in investigating the potential causes of cardiomyopathy on a genetic level. My PURM research project focused on investigating potential causes of morphological changes in the heart muscle with the absence of an essential gene called TRF2. Through this experience, I was able to truly delve into the field of cardiac stem cell research and grow as an independent research assistant.

I would be more than happy to help anyone navigate the research labs and get on a good start in their research journey at Penn. Please reach out to me with any questions about how to get involved in research through CURF, PURM, or simply to talk about anything!
