Profile Picture

Emma Keeler

I am fascinated by microorganisms and their roles in human health and disease. My past and present projects have afforded me exciting opportunities to study fungi, bacteria, viruses, and now parasites. I came to Penn after completing a two-year project involving the recovery of and screening of clinically relevant fungi from deep-sea hydrothermal vents. Today, most of my time is spent in the Bushman Lab studying the virome of human parasites and completing my thesis project on the host tropism of redondoviruses. I have published two first-author papers while at Penn and I have an accepted review awaiting publication. Outside of the lab, I am a Research Peer Advisor with CURF and Founder and President of the Penn Infectious Disease Club.
