Even before coming to Penn I knew that I wanted to become involved in research as an undergraduate. However, as a freshman I was overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information and opportunities available. I ended up becoming involved with research through PURM in Dr. Bomyi Lim’s lab in the CBE department and am so grateful for that opportunity. I was able to work on a project engineering an optogenetic system that would allow for a gene to be turned ‘on’ or ‘off’ using light. I was so excited to be able to continue working on this project through an independent study the following semester. I also had an internship in Industry Research and Development this past summer so I can also talk about some of the differences between academic and industry research.

Getting started in research can be overwhelming at first so please reach out to me with any questions you may have. I’d love to chat with you about research, engineering, Penn, or really anything!
