BFS Masterclass with Professor Justin McDaniel

February 26, 2019 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

The BFS UAB invites you to sit in on a Faculty Masterclass with Dr. Justin McDaniel on Tuesday, February 26 from 5:30pm-7pm. Dr. McDaniel is the Undergraduate Chair and Professor of Religious Studies, whose research is about Lao, Thai, Pali and Sanskrit literature, art and architecture, and manuscript studies.

This talk will be about the design and execution of two experimental courses at Penn: "Living Deliberately" -- often known as the "monk course” -- and "Existential Despair.”  These courses attempt to bring affect, physicality, and embodiment into the humanities classroom. I will describe the courses, some observations, some exciting outcomes, and problems that arose while teaching. We will have open discussion after a short presentation.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP at this link: https://goo.gl/forms/5hbrWsHFipYQkWYi2.
