General Information

The Sachs Program for Arts Innovation supports innovative arts activities throughout the University of Pennsylvania community, providing funding to Penn faculty, staff, students, departments, programs, and centers. Their vision is that the arts at Penn are valued and embraced as a creative catalyst, driving innovation, inspiration, and action. There are currently two funding avenues for:

  • Student Grants- The Sachs Program offers grant opportunities specifically for University of Pennsylvania students once a year, following a different timeline than our annual grant cycle. Sachs Program Student Grants are offered annually in the fall, and Ben Art Bucks are awarded on a rolling basis.
  • Annual Grants- The Sachs Program 2024 Annual Grants include a range of opportunities to support University of Pennsylvania faculty and staff, departments, programs and centers, and collaborations with community partners and with student groups.

Broadly, Sachs Program grant falls under one of four categories—Teaching Art, Making Art, Presenting Art, and Student grants—and, within those categories, there are 10 grant types. Each grant awarded is affiliated with at least one school or center from across the University of Pennsylvania community.

Grants range in size, with most opportunities between $4,000 and $8,000. All grantmaking is aligned with the Sachs’ vision to support teaching art, making art, and presenting art, as well as their aim to provide Penn students with increased access to the arts and humanities.
