The Monell Center is the world’s only scientific research institute dedicated to conducting basic research on taste, smell, and nutritional sciences. Located within Philadelphia’s University City, the Monell Center sponsors a Science Apprenticeship Program to introduce local high school and college students to scientific research. The program welcomes all student applicants and has a particular interest in training individuals from groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences.

The Humanity in Action Fellowship program is the gateway program to becoming a Senior Fellow and member of the Humanity in Action network. The application for the 2019 Fellowship programs will be open by the end of September, and the deadline to apply will be midnight (PST) Sunday, January 6, 2019.
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) program
RISE Germany offers summer research internships in Germany for undergraduate students from North America, Great Britain and Ireland. In their internships, students are carefully matched with doctoral students and researchers (only from universities of applied sciences, UAS) – whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. Interns receive a monthly stipend to cover every day costs. About 300 scholarships are available each year.
FactCheck.org, the award-winning political website at the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, is now accepting applications for its 2020–21 undergraduate fellowship program. The next class of undergrads will be trained during an eight-week, paid summer program at FactCheck’s offices at APPC from May 26 –July 17. Those who are trained this summer must agree to work 10 to 15 hours per week at FactCheck.org during the fall and spring semesters, if their work merits continued employment.
Energy Research Undergraduate Laboratory Fellowships places students in paid internships in Science and Engineering at any of several Department of Energy facilities. Many of the participants in the program have decided on a career in science and engineering because of the nature of the experience. Students work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories’ research programs.
This is a summer program run by the NIH Center for Molecular Studies in Digestive and Liver Diseases. It consists of an organized program of summer lectures and presentations combined with basic research experience in the laboratory of an expert investigator.
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Research Institute Summer Scholars Program (CRISSP) is a 10-week competitive summer internship program for undergraduate students interested in careers in the biomedical sciences. The internship is designed to provide students with theoretical knowledge, practical training in academic research, and critical exposure to pediatric-focused career trajectories under the direct mentorship of CHOP faculty. Full time immersion in a lab or research group allows interns to experience science and discovery first hand.
The Center for the Advanced Study of India (CASI) introduces Penn students to India to learn beyond the classroom environment, gain valuable international work experience, and facilitate cultural exchange. Since 2007, CASI has provided funding to over 150 Penn students to participate in volunteer internships and conduct independent research during the summer months. CASI also supports one recent graduate through a post-baccalaureate fellowship, the Sobti Family Fellowship
