General Information

The Penn Museum accepts applications twice a year for winter and summer projects. Requests for grant support up to a maximum of $1050 will be considered.

The Wolf Humanities Center offers 12 fellowships for the 2022–2023 academic year to Penn undergraduates from any school who are interested in conducting humanities research on some aspect of Heritage, the Forum's theme next year. Applicants must be full time and in good academic standing. 

The fundamental objective of MMUF is to increase the number of minority students, and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities, who will pursue Ph.D.s in core fields in the arts and sciences. The program aims to reduce over time the serious underrepresentation on the faculties of individuals from certain minority groups, as well as to address the attendant educational consequences of these disparities.

The History Department Undergraduate Research Fund awards grants to students who require funds to travel to archives or for research materials for extensive projects, usually as part of a history seminar, or as a continuation of work begun there. All students are encouraged to apply. The Department also has additional funds to support undergraduate research for students in the Honors program.

The Amy Gutmann and Michael Doyle Research Opportunities Fund is used at the discretion of the director of CURF to assist students with activities associated with their independent research projects. This may include covering the cost of travel to research sites, or assisting with living expenses during a research project away from campus. The funding is only available on an emergency basis when there are no other sources of funding available and can not be used in conjunction with other funding sources. Applicants can expect to receive no more than $500 from this fund.

Each year, the Undergraduate English program awards a small number of Undergraduate Research and Travel Grants. In cases where majors are engaged in promising research projects, we would like to reimburse them, either fully or partially, for costs incurred by travel to archives, as well as for photocopying, permissions, reproductions, and other legitimate research expenses. Researchers must have a Faculty Director enthusiastically willing to oversee and sponsor the project.

The Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy will award up to 10 undergraduate research fellowships for projects to be begun in the summer of 2022 and completed during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Through the Emerging Scholar Talk (EST) competition, CWiC celebrates both strong research projects and solid speaking abilities by providing students with a public forum in which to talk about their academic work. Emerging Scholars may present any type of research in any field that they have conducted independently at Penn. This may include independent studies, senior theses, class projects, etc. All undergraduates in all four schools are welcome and encouraged to apply.
